Adding Google Tag Manager (GTM) containers at the site level

Manage Google Tag Manager (GTM) containers at the site level, giving you more flexibility and control over how you deploy tags across your sites

How it works

  • If you have a global GTM container already set up, this will apply by default across all your sites.

  • If you then assign a site-level GTM container, the site-level container will override the global container for that specific site.

This allows you to maintain global consistency while still customising tracking and tags for individual sites where needed.

How to add a site-level GTM container

  1. Navigate to Your Account.

  2. Scroll down to the Google Tag Manager section.

  3. In the dropdown, you’ll see your account and the list of active sites below it.

  4. Select a site and enter the individual GTM container ID such as GTM-ABCXYZ.

  5. Repeat for any other sites where you’d like to add unique container IDs.

  6. Remember to click Save Settings when finished.

Key notes

  • Global container = default for all sites.

  • Site-level container = overrides global container for that site only.

  • Be sure to save your changes to ensure the correct container is applied.
